This is more about what the writer wants to see than what’s presented. While there are excellent images here, there are none that show meaningful aspects of the protests that haven’t been shown in countless other published photos.

Hmm, always open to constructive feedback but the photos are tailored to address very specific themes of the protests that have not been widely addressed. Surely you've seen other photos that reflect the themes in the post, but I doubt you've seen them presented in this kind of context.

Actually, I have. Which is why I made the comment. The presentation comes across as just a dump of competent protest photos that offer nothing new - even if they are featured in the New Yorker.

As a political news junkie (and photo-enthusiast), I appreciated this post which combined images with thoughtful commentary. I also hadn't heard before (or thought of myself) the point that we are not seeing images of the student/administrator dialogues -- well of those that occurred. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your comment and appreciation. Isn't it interesting that the internet is full of commentary but, as visual as our culture is (and how commoditized those images are), there is next-to-no consistent analysis or commentary on all those images we are consuming? We've been doing it for years in concert with the leading scholars in democracy and visual rhetoric.
